Sony has announced another important change for gamers this week, with the closure of the PlayStation Store for the PS3 and PS Vita. The closure of the PlayStation Store will happen in phases, but will mean that new content purchases will no longer be possible on these devices.

The PS3 has received new a minor firmware update, updating the system software to v4.88. In line with the PS Vita firmware, this update disables some PSN account management functionality on the console. This is the first update for the discontinued console in almost 12 months, with the last update back in June 2021.

Following some downtime to the LittleBigPlanet online community, it turns out that online services for the older LittleBigPlanet games have been shut down, without any prior warning. In a statement posted on twitter, the LittleBigPlanet twitter account stated that online services for all LittleBigPlanet games on the PS3 and PS Vita are no longer available.

Rockstar Announces Server Shutdown for PS3 Games, Including GTA Online

Rockstar Games will be shutting down the online servers for three of their PS3 and Xbox 360 games towards the end of this year, the company has announced. The three games include Max Payne 3 and L.A. Noire and GTA Online, and will start to go offline from September. The single-player / offline modes will be unaffected by the server shutdown.

Recently, Sony announced that the PlayStation Store on the PS3 and PS Vita would close later this year, meaning you can no longer purchase new digital games on those devices. Sony has now decided to reverse their decision and will continue to operate both Stores. However, the PSP Store will be retired as planned on 2nd July 2021.
