Sony has announced that PS4 Firmware 4.00 public beta has commended, and is available to anyone currently signed up to the public beta program. The firwmare is the major update to the PS4, bringing with it a multitude of changes including a UI refresh, better and customisable Quick Menu, and Folder and Library organisation functionality.
Sony has announced the new games coming to PlayStation Plus in August 2016. As usual, you can expect six new games to join the Instant Game Collection – two for each PlayStation platform. New games in August include Tricky Towers (PS4), Yakuza 5 (PS3) and Patapon 3 (PS Vita). The line-up also includes a game that was previously part of PlayStation Plus: Retro/Grade (PS3).
Sony UK has announced that PlayStation VR will be at EGX this September, giving gamers the opportunity to try out the virtual reality headset and experience the immersive entertainment it brings with it. The PlayStation VR headset will be at the PlayStation Stand at EGX, which takes place from 22nd to 25th September at the NEC in Birmingham.
Dontnod Entertainment has announced that the first episode of Life is Strange is now free to download on the PS4 and PS3. The first episode, titled Chrysalis, will remain free to download regardless of whether you are a PlayStation Plus subscriber or not. Telltale Games have announced that the first episode in their new Batman series is coming to consoles and other platforms in August. The August release will be digital only, but a physical version will be available for purchase starting September 13th in North America and September 16th in Europe as a special Season Pass Disc. The exact date for the August digital-only release has yet to be revealed.
Sony has shared some new information on the PlayStation VR headset, launching this October. Sony has clarified that every title released for PlayStation VR will be compatible with their DualShock 4 controller, and that the Move and Aim controllers are optional, but will enhance game experiences. The announcement comes after some confusion with boxart showing PlayStation Move as a required accessory.
Just like Europe, Battlefield 4 was the most-downloaded game on the PS4 last month, beating new comer Overwatch, which came in second place. Battlefield Hardline finished in third place. On the PS3, Dark Souls II was the most downloaded title from the PlayStation Store. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End dropped to 15th in the chart, but it did beat Doom, which finished in 17th.
Following No Man’s Sky going Gold last week, Hello Games founder Sean Murray revealed that the game is just 6 GB in size, consisting mostly of audio. The size of the game was revealed in a follow-up tweet to the original Gold announcement.
SCEE has released the PlayStation Store charts for June 2016, revealing Battlefield 4 as the top selling title on the PS4. The EA promotions on Battlefield helped the title climb into the number one spot, followed by Battlefield Hardline. May’s top selling title, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, dropped to 15th place in June’s chart, and new comer Resident Evil 5 debuted on the chart in 18th place.
