Heavy Rain Review

3

Many games have taken a stab at “adult” games, failing miserably by including copious amount of teenage angst, breasts or over the top blood, sometimes all three! Where they fail, Heavy Rain succeeds, where they fall short, Heavy Rain is the triumphant gold medallist. In gaming, something forgotten by the time the million dollar visuals are done is the narrative. But to create a game that fundamentally touches you, the story and the way the story is told has to be important. Heavy Rain is a story…an experience, with a game wrapped around it.

Given the nature of this title, spoilers are NOT included in this review.

PS3 HDMI Cable Review

0

HD gaming is a essential part of the gaming experience on the PlayStation 3. Without a HDTV and HDMI cable connected to your PS3, you simply cannot make the most of the high-definition graphics in games like God of War III, Final Fantasy XIII or Heavy Rain. Naturally, upgrading your home entertainment system to HD can be expensive – the cost of the PS3, a new HDTV and the accessories in between can easily exceed $1000 / £750.

Blue Toad Murder Files Review

1

GRAPHICS: Graphically, the game looks fantastic for a downloadable title. Relentless use the same art style from the Buzz! series. The animation is perfect with the voice acting and lip-syncing matching perfectly. The village itself is finely detailed with subtle details such as your typical red post box and even the odd paving stones in the garden.

Bioshock 2 Review

4

The original Bioshock was a massive hit upon its release in 2007, critics and gamers alike adored it. On its surface it seemed like “another FPS” but delve a little deeper and you soon realised it was much more than that. It was all about the combination of the first person gameplay with the stunning world called Rapture. With its brilliant art deco style, this destroyed underwater utopia was the setting for one fantastic rollercoaster ride of a story. The eerie atmosphere combined with some great twist and turns kept players engrossed right until the end.

Darksiders Review

2

Darksiders is another hot game starting off the 2010 line-up. Darksiders is an action-adventure video game developed by Vigil Games and published by THQ. The game takes its inspiration from the apocalypse and battle of Armageddon described in the Book of Revelation, with the player taking the role of “War”, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Bayonetta Review

5

STORY: The story of Bayonetta revolves around a witch by the name of (yes, you guessed it!) Bayonetta. After waking up from a 500 year slumber (with finely sculpted polygonal ass intact) at the bottom of a lake no less, she finds she has contracted a slight case of amnesia. This plot point basically gives Bayonetta the licence to kick anybody’s ass that looks like they might have information for her. Through the prologue and various journalistic writings that are collectable throughout the game you learn of Bayonetta’s Witch heritage and their Lumen Sage counterparts who where both tasked with watching over the world; one protecting the light and the other, the dark.

PlayStation Network Video Store Review

4

The PlayStation Video Store is a great addition to the PS3 and PSP, adding to a number of entertainment services already available on the PlayStation. The Video Store has been available in North America for over a year now and was only recently released in a few countries in Europe. The online service allows you to rent or purchase movies straight from the comfort of your home.

Game Of The Year: Uncharted 2

0

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a likely contender for being the best game this year. Award-winning developer Naughty Dog has done an amazing job with this title, bring action, humor, and romance to the PlayStation 3 in an almost movie-like experience. The game was released in Europe on October 16th 2009 and was met with many perfect reviews. The Official PlayStation Magazine (the US, UK and Australian editions) gave Uncharted 2 100%, as did EuroGamer, CVG and many other critics.

Assassin’s Creed 2 Review

4

Assassins Creed 2 starts with a quick recap on the events of the first game to remind players of the confusing plot which intertwines events from the past and modern day. Once the recap is done the game puts you back in control of subject 17 also known as Desmond Miles. You take control of Desmond at the exact point that the previous game left off with Desmond standing in his Abstergo cell staring at a bloodied wall of cryptic messages.
