SOCOM: Confrontation beta patch v1.30

0

SOCOM: Confrontation public beta will be patched to version 1.30 later today at 12:00PM GMT. The patch will attempt to correct bugs and errors encountered in the game, including poor loading times when joining a match, network lag, and other improvements. Other issues such as bad framerate, game crashes and loading screen freezes will be fixed in a future patch. You can find full details of the changelog below.

  • Abnormally long network synchronization issues when some users in a game have a poor network connection. This issue causes 4-7 minute (or longer) load times when late joining a game.
  • Fixed an issue where respawn game late joiners were sometimes stuck in spectator mode and could not respawn into the game.
  • Removed the latency detection network test which was causing some users with poor network connections to receive the network latency icon (red X).
  • Fixed an issue where clients with different client versions (patches) could play together in a default medley game.
  • Fixed an issue where if the session master leaves the game, late joiners could not “green up” and late join into the game.
  • Fixed corrupt characters in the European and Japanese EULAs and Server News.
  • Fixed many join game issues and made joining a game quicker. We are still optimizing this.
  • Fixed an issue where if you add and then remove someone from your block list they were still unable to send you a message.
  • Improved accuracy while moving (based on user feedback). Partial implementation. More improvements to come.
  • Reduced the encumbrance penalty (based on user feedback).
  • Changed the default round time for Medley games from 8 minutes to 6 minutes (based on user feedback).

UPDATE: Life with PlayStation now available for download

0

Sony has released Life with PlayStation without letting out a single word about it. An update is available for the Folding@Home client, which installed replaces the folding icon with the Life with PlayStation icon (which is much more suited to the XMB). If you are using Life with PlayStation, your online status will also be updated to show the same (Folding@Home will be replaced with Life with PlayStation).

We will be uploading a video of Life with PlayStation soon, so look out for it.

UPDATE:

The release of Life with PlayStation was accidently released today, and Sony have since pulled the update. Sony as stated that during today’s test phase, the update was accidently released to the general public. The official release isn’t going to be today as we previously reported. Sony will be making an official announcement on the release soon.

PS3 Firmware 2.43

0

A new firmware update for the PlayStation 3 is now available to download, but it features nothing new for the US or Europe. This is the first time Sony has released a firmware version that only affects a particular region, although it can still be downloaded to US and European PS3s. The update allows content to be rented from the Japanese PlayStation Store. Luckily, the update is optional for Europe and the US so you do not need to update to this version.

The changelog is as follows:

  • This update supports the release of rental content on PlayStation Store for the Japan region. Users in the SCEE/SCEA region do not need to perform this update. However, if you perform the update, it will not harm your system.

PlayStation Home: Game Launching

0

Although PlayStation Home is there for meeting new people and communicating, playing games is also a big part of Home. Sony is focusing more on online gaming within Home by creating "spaces" for gamers. Currently, beta testers do not have access to these spaces, but they can create and launch games within Home (compatible titles only). Depending on the game, Home will present you with options to customize your game. Players within home can join your game, after which you are returned back to Home.

Your friends and other players can join your game within Home, provided that they have the game you have selected. Several titles are already supported within home including Warhawk, SOCOM: Confrontation, MotorStorm and more. Even offline games and demos can be launched from Home. We’ve created two videos showing how games can be launched within home using two titles: SOCOM Controntation and Warhawk. Of the two games, Warhawk has more options to customize the the game. Warhawk also automatically creates the game for the player too.

EntroPay no longer accepted on PSN

0

In our guide on how to purchase content from the PlayStation Store in another country, we recomment using the website EntroPay. Many websites are reporting that this method no longer works as Sony have changed the payment mechanism. What does this mean? If you live in Europe or another country and you were hoping of purchasing anything from the US PlayStation Store, you will no longer be able to use a virtual visa card – you will need to own a US credit card.

This will disappoint those of you who want to get into the SOCOM Confrontation Beta through Qore. We do have some good new though. Using our existing EntroPay account, we were successfully able to add funds to our PlayStation Wallet, which leads us to believe that this problem could only be affecting new account. If you have an existing account, give it a go and report any feedback to us.

PlayStation Home: More videos from the Closed Beta

0

As promised yesterday, we have four new videos of the extended closed beta of PlayStation Home. The new videos cover customizing your character and ‘My Home Space’, as well as show off two of the public areas in Home: the Central Plaza and Games Arcade. As you will see from the videos, there are currently only two ways to customize your personal space: wallpaper and furniture. The Games Arcade video shows off the pool tables and two of the mini arcade games you can play.

Customize your Character:

There are several options available to help customize your character. This includes gender, face, clothes, accessories and height/weight. The customization options available for your face are pretty advanced allowing to tweak nearly every part of your face.

Customizing your Home Space:

You can personalize your personal space in PlayStation Home in one of two ways – changing the wallpaper and adding furniture. This video demonstrated both of the above with a few examples. There are 8 wallpapers available and you are get some furniture in you inventory when you first access Home. More furniture can be purchased from the shops in the Mall.

The Central Plaza:

The Central Plaza is the main public area in Home, where you can access the other various areas available including the Theater, Mall and Game Space. The Central Plaza for each region is different (the below video shows the US Central Plaza). There is a public dance area called Listen@Home where you can dance to a selection of tracks (the feature is currently a prototype).

The Games Space:

The Games Space is where most of the fun happens. The Games Space has social and non-social games you can enjoy while within Home. These include pool and bowling (both social), and four arcade games (found on the arcade machines). Sony is looking to expand the number of games available with possibilities of adding games like Darts, Mini Golf and Table Tennis (among others).

Any feedback welcome. If you would like to see a certain area, let us know and we will try and make a video for you. We will try and bring you more videos tomorrow.

PlayStation Home: A look at the extended closed beta

0

PlayStation Home has been high on our agenda, ever since we were invited to the beta. In order to share our experience with though of you who are not part of the beta, we have created some videos showing off the virtual world Sony is so proud off. Below, you will find two videos taking you around the virtual world and exploring the various areas you can visit. We will be uploading more videos over the next few days to give you a better insight.

So far, Home is looking great. There are four public areas you can visit including the Theater, Mall, Games Arcade and Central Plaza. You can listen to music in the Listen@Home area in the Central Plaza or dance along to it. In the Games Arcade, you will find pool tables, bowling lanes and arcade machines with various mini-games you can enjoy. Pool and Bowling can be enjoyed by yourself or with friends.

You are given one living space (called My Home Space) when you first start, but you can also get the Summer House for free from the Mall. You can get new content, such as clothes and furniture from the Mall too. Currently, everything is free but eventually you will be able to buy additional content using your PlayStation Wallet. The above videos give an example of visiting shops and purchasing content. We will bring you more details on the beta in the near future.
