UK PlayStation Store Update for April 26th 2010

This week we see another big update to the UK PlayStation Store. There are a total of 26 new movies to rent and over 30 new movies to own. Some of the highlights this week include the record-breaking Avatar, comedy Blue Streak and 007’s previous outing Casino Royale. Check out the list of new movies below.
New PS3 Slims 200g Lighter, 15% More Efficient

Remember the new PS3 Slim models we wrote about a while back? The new models are 200 grams lighter than the first model thanks to smaller parts and a reduction in the size of the graphics chip. Sony has reduced the size of the RSX graphics processer from its previous 65 nano-meters to just 45nm.
Final Fight: Double Impact Introduces New DRM Measures

Final Fight: Double Impact was released released on the PlayStation Store two weeks ago and introduced a new digital rights management (DRM) measure on the PlayStation Network. However, they didn’t do a very good job of communicating the requirement to users until this week. Capcom issues an apology, not for the restriction, but because they didn’t do a good job of telling people that there was one.
Disgaea 3 Getting Trophy Patch

NIS America has confirmed that the European version of Disgaea 3 is finally getting a trophy patch. In addition, NIS America has also revealed that the patch will be retroactive so some trophies will automatically unlocked, providing the requirements are met, once the patch is installed. If you are lucky, you may not have to play through the game again.
How 3D Works on the PlayStation 3

Firmware 3.30 turned on 3D game support on the PS3 this week, but there are no 3D games current available. Digital Foundry have done some investigation into how the technology works on the console, starting with how Sony translated WipEout HD from 2D into 3D. In short, many games need to scale down the resolution and reduce the frame rate.
New Version of Media Go Announced

Sony Computer Entertainment America has announced a new version of the Media Go software for the PC, bring the current version to v1.40. The free application allows users to manage their PSP and PSPgo systems as well as access the PlayStation Store to download games, videos and other content.
PS3 Firmware 3.30 Breaking PS3s

If you haven’t updated to Firmware 3.30 yet, you may want to hold off. Problems have been reported by users after upgrading to the latest version, complaining that their PS3s have become useless. The main reported problems are that the systems no longer read any form of disc, thus making gaming and watching movies an impossibility.

According to the latest sales data from VGChartz, God of War 3 has already sold over 2 million copies in five weeks since release. God of War III joins the other PlayStation 3 exclusives to break the 2 million mark, including Uncharted 2, LittleBigPlanet and Resistance. In addition, SOCOM: Confrontation has finally broken the 1 million mark.
Sony Updates Terms of Service and User Agreement

With the release of Firmware 3.30 today, Sony has also updated the Terms of Service and the End-User License Agreement (EULA). One of the main modifications is to the “Maintenance and Upgrades” clause, which allows Sony to automatically change functionality on the PS3 and could “cause a loss of data or content or cause a loss of functionalities or utilities.”
