Video

• Blu-ray Disc playback now supports DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio output.
  • The PS3 system does not support playback of DTS-ES and DTS 96/24 for DVD-Video or DTS-ES Matrix for Blu-ray Discs

General

• Blu-ray Disc Profile 2.0 (BD-LIVE) is now supported. Visit the BD-Live guide in Help & Support under PS3 > Video at eu.playstation.com for more details.
• You can now copy playlists that you create in Music and Photo to a PSP system.

Settings

• The way you register Bluetooth devices has changed. Also, you can now manage your registered devices.
• A [BD Internet Connection] setting has been added under [BD/DVD Settings].
• An [Audio Output Device] setting has been added under [Remote Play Settings].

Photo

• You can now display an image while editing a playlist.

Music

• You can now play a music track while editing a playlist.

Video

• You can now play DivX and WMV format files that are 2GB or larger.
• You can now display subtitles in DivX-format video files.
• You can now begin playing a DVD from the point where you previously stopped it (Resume Play).
• A [Mosquito Noise Reduction] option has been added under [AV Settings] in the control panel for standard DVDs.
• You can now play BD-R version 1.2 (LTH BD-R) discs.
  • LTH, or low to high, is a recording method that supports organic dye write-once BD-R media.

Network

• You can now change some PS3 system settings during remote play.
• [Save Target] has been added as an option under [File] in the browse mode menu of the Internet browser. This option lets you save a file that is linked from a Web page, such as an image or video file, or other type of file, to your PS3 system’s hard drive or storage media.
• The Internet browser now displays Web pages more quickly.
• Using the Internet browser, you can now play a linked video file as it is being downloaded.
  • Some types of video files cannot be viewed in this manner and must be downloaded completely before playback.

Games

• The operating stability of some PLAYSTATION 3 format software has been improved.

Settings

• The Voice Changer feature has been added to voice / video chat. Using this feature, you can change the tone of a voice that is input from an audio device such as a microphone. High and low-pitched tones can each be adjusted to five preset levels. You can vary the tone when using voice / video chat under Friends.

Music

• You can now select [Type 3] as an option under Settings > [Music Settings] > [Bitmapping]. This bitmapping process was developed specifically for the PS3TM system to enhance audio playback.

Video

• DivX and VC-1 (WMV) have been added to the types of files that can be played.
  • To play VC-1 (WMV) format files, you must go to Settings > [System Settings] and set [Enable WMA Playback].
  • Copyright-protected files or files that were encoded by using DivX 3.11 cannot be played.
  • Files that are 2GB or more cannot be played.
• Blu-ray Disc Profile 1.1 is now supported.
  • You may now be able to use the “Picture in Picture” feature that enables playback of two videos at the same time with Profile 1.1-compatible Blu-ray Discs. Available features will vary depending on the disc.
• [BD Data Utility] has been added.
  • The management data that is used by the Blu-ray Disc is saved

Overall

• System stability during use of some PLAYSTATION 3 format software has been improved.
• System stability has been improved for some operations, including the use of the Internet browser and the Information Board.
• System stability during output of upscaled PlayStation®2 format software images has been improved.
  • Applies only to models that support playback of PlayStation 2 format software.
• Functionality of the [Remote Start] feature has been changed to prevent an unintentional remote start.
  • If [Remote Start via the Internet] is enabled, the PS3 system may turn on unintentionally, depending on the type of router in use. (In this case a remote play connection cannot be established.) To avoid unintentional power-up of the system, [Remote Start via the Internet] may be disabled automatically if a remote play connection is not established within a certain amount of time after the system is turned on.

Overall

• New grouping options for the [Group Content] feature have been added to the options menu.
• [PLAYSTATION Network] has been added as a category in the XMB home menu.
• You can now create playlists to organize content under [Music] and [Photo]

Settings

• [Color], [Background], and [Font] have been added as options under [Theme Settings].
• You can now select [Brightness] as an option under [Theme Settings] > [Background].
• The procedure for setting [Internet Connection Settings] under [Network Settings] has been changed.
• You can now select Canon printers with the [Printer Selection] option under [Printer Settings]. For a list of compatible printers, select here.
• [Remote Start] has been added as an option under [Remote Play Settings].

Game

• [Vibration Function] has been added as an option under [Controller Settings] in the menu that is displayed when you press the PS button on a DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controller.
  • Available for purchase in early 2008.

Network

• You can now view video content (as a progressive download) as it is being downloaded from PLAYSTATION Store.
• [Trend Micro Web Security for PS3] has been added as an option under the Internet browser.
• [Information Board] has been added as a feature under [Network]

Friends

• The voice / video chat menu has been changed.
• You can now use the PLAYSTATION Eye camera for voice / video chat.

Network

• The stability of the network connection has been improved.

Playability

• Playability status with the PS3 system has changed for some PLAYSTATION 3 format titles.
  • This does not affect titles in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Oceania.

Overall

• [Eject Disc] has been added as an option in the options menu for discs.
• You can now select [Group Content] when changing a file or folder icon

• [On] has been added as an option in [BD 1080p 24Hz Output (HDMI)] under [BD/DVD Settings].
• [44.1 kHz / 88.2 kHz / 176.4 kHz] has been added as an option in [Audio CD Output Frequency] under [Music Settings].
• [Type 2] has been added as an option in [Bitmapping] under [Music Settings].
• [Theme Settings] has been added under [Settings]

Photo

• You can now display an image as the background of the PS3 Home Menu.

Music

• Upscaled output of audio CDs is now supported.

Video

• The [Image Quality Adjustment] option in the control panel has been changed to [AV Settings].
• You can now play AVCHD-format video files that are saved on Memory Stick media or on the hard disk of a digital video camera.

Game

• You can now adjust screen display settings while playing PlayStation and PlayStation 2 format software.
• You can now sort games that are saved on the hard disk.
• You can now operate the [Slow (Back)] and [Frame Reverse] functions when playing video files saved on storage media or on the hard disk.

Network

• [Add to Bookmarks] has been added as an option in the [File] menu of the Internet browser.
• You can now enter text directly into text entry fields of Web pages using a USB keyboard.

Friends

• When an avatar is displayed during a voice / video chat, the avatar now moves in response to audio.
• You can now use emoticons when creating messages under [Friends].

Video

• Support for playback of AVC High Profile (H.264/MPEG-4) format video has been added
