Full PlayStation 3 3D Support Coming in 2010

September 6th, 2009 / Niraj Shah / News
8

3D gaming has gained some serious support over the past several months, and its clear that 3D is the way forward. Earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this year when Gran Turismo and WipEout HD was shown to be running in 3D. There are already a few 3D games available, including Invincible Tiger and James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game. According to Engadget, a software update for the PS3 sometime in 2010 will enable it to provide a 3D viewing experience to “all” existing games on the system.

To play 3D games, you either need a autostereoscopic TV (for which you do not need 3D glasses) or a pair of red-cyan glasses. Sony will be bringing out its 3D range of Bravia TVs in 2010, most likely to coincide with the release of the 3D firmware update.

I have always dreamed of 3D tv, but this sounds amazing. I wonder how much a stereoscopic TV will be when released into the west at the end of 2010?

If by the end of 2010 theyre available and priced below £1000, then I will have to get a stereoscopic TV. I heard they are already on sale in Japan. It’s weird to think that over there that they’re so technologically advanced, 5 years ahead or so, even their HDTV’s are 2160p, but you gotta love them for it!
