Sony Clarify that 5GB of RAM Available for PS4 Games

The PS4 will have 8GB of RAM to use on the system, but Sony has clarified that only 5GB of this will be available to developers to use with games. Of the 5GB available, 4.5GB will be “Direct Memory” and 512MB will be “Flexible Memory”, managed by the PS4 OS on the game’s behalf, but 100% available to the game.

Sony’s Gamescom Press Conference Dated

Sony has confirmed their presence at Gamescom next month in Cologne, Germany, by revealing the date and time for their Press Conference. Sony’s press conference will take place a day before the the event, on August 20th 2013 at 7pm CET / 6pm BST. The conference will take place at the Staatenhaus am Rheinpark in Cologne, and is expected to be live-streamed.

PS4 Gets FCC Approval in US

Engadget reports that Sony’s PlayStation 4 console has passed the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US, certifying that the console’s radio and wi-fi hardware is compliant in the States. The labels filed with the FCC indicate the final model number for the console is CUH-1001A, and that the console will have a maximum clock frequency of 2.75GHz – same as the dev kits.

PS3 Wireless Headsets will be Compatible with PS4

A Sony official at San Diego Comic-Con has told Polygon that the PS4 will support older PS3 headsets, even though the console will come bundled with it’s own mono headset. PS3 headsets like the official PS3 Wireless Headset and the Pulse Headset will work with the new console as an alternative. It’s expected that other third-party headsets will also work with the PS4.

Sorry football fans, it appears that Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 won’t be coming to the PS4 or Xbox One this year. The strange decision by Konami means that EA will pretty much dominate the Football market on next-generation consoles with FIFA 14, which will be coming to both consoles. Gaikai Will Give Gamers Access to Catalogue of “Critically Acclaimed” PS3 Games

Sony’s cloud gaming strategy was revealed at E3, which will game use of Gaikai’s streaming technology to give PS4, PS3 and PS Vita gamers access to library of PS3 games. However, it’s been clarified that only “critically acclaimed” games will be available via the service.
