PlayStation Home getting patched today

0

It looks like Tueday’s PlayStation Network downtime was to solve the PlayStation Home connection issues some users have been experiencing since the Open Beta launched last week. SCEE Home Community Manager “TedTheDog” has announced that a patch for the problem will be released on Thursday. The connection error (also known C-931 error) will hopefully be resolved with this patch.

If you haven’t been able to get on to PlayStation Home yet, the wait is almost over. Boot up PlayStation Home and you will be prompted to download the update once it is available.

PlayStation Network down for maintenance

0

Parts of the PlayStation Network were down today for some regular scheduled maintence work. Sony did not mention which areas would be down and no advanced notice of the work was given to gamers. Sony also did not mention what would change during the period of downtime so don’t be surprised if nothing has changed. You can find any updates about the maintenance over at the PlayStation.Blog.

Users are specualting the update has something to do with the PlayStation Home problems, though Sony has failed to comment. If an update for PlayStation Home is in the works, you can expect a update message the next time you boot up Home. We will post any further news here – keep an eye out.

PlayStation Home comes out tomorrow

0

In a press release today, SCEE has announced that PlayStation Home will be available to download on December 11th 2008. A new icon will appear in the Network menu (if you don’t already have Home installed), allowing you to download it in much the same way as PlayStation Life. On it’s opening day, PlayStation Home will feature some of the world’s most respected lifestyle brands including Diesel, Ligne Roset, Red Bull, and Paramount Pictures.

Video

As the very first consumer brand space, Red Bull has created the Red Bull Island where visitors to the Island can interact and take part in many of Red Bull?s unique events. Initially there will be the opportunity to get inside the cockpit of a Red Bull Air Race plane and compete against the PlayStation community.

For users accessing PlayStation Home in the SCEE regions, themed virtual environments will be available to explore. Starting with a themed Far Cry 2 space, PlayStation Home will offer game inspired environments that allow people to discuss the specific games, plan strategies and access content and clues that will enhance the gaming experience. The number of gaming environments such as this will regularly increase, with spaces for Uncharted: Drake?s Fortune, Warhawk, Motorstorm and SOCOM following very soon.

Qore Episode 7 out tomorrow

0

The December 2008 issue of Qore is out tomorrow, after the weekly PlayStation Store update. The best part of the new Episode is that it can be downloaded for free. Why? It’s Sony’s way of saying "Happy Holidays". Episode 07 begins with an inside look at EA’s "Skate 2," the sequel to the game that redefined what it means to ride a virtual board. Then, Audrey Cleo rolls over to Skatefest ?08 in San Diego for a spin around the boarding scene. Annual Subscribers to Qore will find their Download Centers filled with a Qore-exclusive "Flock" demo.

Veronica Belmont makes her way to Capcom to check out two of their latest projects – "Bionic Commando", the re-imagining of the classic 8-bit franchise, and "Flock", a really cool PlayStation Network game that definitely does not follow the herd.

Episode 7 also introduces you to the "Steam Punk" sub-culture as they take a look at Codemasters? "Damnation" – a post-modern third person-shooter served with a Jules Verne twist. Episode 7 will also include a exclusive downloadable Killzone 2 theme.

PS3 Firmware v2.53

0

PlayStation 3 Firmware v2.53 is now available to download using the Network Update feature on the console. You will be prompted to update your system (if you haven’t already done so) when you boot up your PS3. The new system software version improves the Flash Player in the [Internet Browser] to support full screen viewing and also adds Live movie playability (using RTMP format). What does this mean? You can now enjoy YouTube and BBC iPlayer videos in full screen on your HD (or SD) TV.

The new update brings the PlayStation 3 slightly closer to becoming the ultimate multimedia device. Of course, there are still plenty of features Sony can add, such as better video format support, subtitle support (.srt files) and the PlayStation Video Store for other regions (currently only available in the US).
