It’s only been a few days since the PS3 ‘root key’ was discovered and already a Custom Firmware has been created by homebrew developer KaKaRoTo. Naturally, due to legal issues, the developer has refrained from releasing the firmware to the public but has made available all the tools needed to create your own custom firmware (providing you have some coding knowledge).
Episode 39 of FirstPlay is now available on the PlayStation Store, making it the first issue of 2011. This episode includes look at the upcoming titles for 2011, including a in-depth look at Bulletstorm and a review of Scott Pilgrim Vs The World on Blu-ray.
GeoHot is at it again! The PlayStation 3’s “Root Key” was discovered by a group of hackers last week and has been published by famed hacker GeoHot. The root key allows PS3 users to run homebrew applications without the need for dongles and devices like the PS3 Jailbreak.
If you though the PSOne Classic section on the PlayStation Store was a little small, you will be happy to know that three more titles are on the way very soon. The game listings on the ESRB reveal three previously unannounced PSOne classics coming to the PS3 and PSP.
The latest edition of magazine PSM3 has some very interesting mockups of what the PSP2 may look like. These could be real images or they could be PSM3’s representation of what the next iteration of the PSP will look like. If you are looking to get hold of a new PlayStation Handheld, you can expect the PlayStation Phone to be announced in February next year. Rumors suggest the phone will be announced in February, followed by a launch in April. In the meantime Sony has trademarked several names in relation to “mobile phones and accessories for mobile phones.”
In celebration of the upcoming release of inFAMOUS 2, Sucker Punch Productions and DC Comics have announced all-new chapters in the inFAMOUS storyline. Penned by William Harms and illustrated by artist Eric Nguyen, the series bridges the story between inFAMOUS and inFAMOUS 2 and chronicles Cole’s struggle to save Empire City before fleeing to the Southern city of New Marais.

Currently, 19 3D titles are available for purchase, 8 of which can be downloaded from the PlayStation Store. In 2011, 10 3D games have been announced so far, you can expect plenty more to be released.
If you live in North America and don’t already own the title MAG, you will be happy to know that the full game is now available to download from the PlayStation Store. Priced identically to its boxed “Greatest Hits” counterpart, the downloadable version of MAG (4.7 GB) will run you a mere $29.99.
With exactly a month to go, LittleBigPlanet 2 has gone ‘gold’, meaning development on the game is 100% finished. The game will be released on Wednesday 19th January 2011 across Europe, Thursday 20th January in Australia and New Zealand, and Friday 21st January in the UK and Ireland.
