A big PlayStation Store update for both Europe and the US this week, with two new demos for Europe and three new demos for the US. Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty is now available to purchase from both stores too. Both stores have received lots of game trailers from the Leipzig Games Convention as well new game add-on content. Members of PlayStation Underground should have received an email today on PlayStation 3 News. Within the email, details of the fourth episode of Qore are revealed. Coming out in September, Qore Episode 4 will feature LittleBigPlanet, Prince of Persia, MotorStorm Pacific Rift and Bioshock. To further add to this, subscribers and customers will get to download and play the MotorStorm Pacific Rift demo before anyone else.

The demo will be exclusive to Qore customers, with a general public release coming a month later. Episode 4 will also come with a Qore-exclusive LittleBigPlanet XMB Theme, which will not be available to anyone else. Look out for more details next month.

A new 160GB PS3 model has been announced at the Leipzig Games Convention. The US 160GB model will come bundled with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, while the European version will come with vouchers. The new model will launch in November retailing for $499.99/€499.99. The new model will launch in Europe on October 31st 2008, and the US in November. The soon-to-be-launched 80GB PS3 model will continue to retail at $399.99.

The 160GB PS3 model will be exactly the same as the 80GB model in terms of specification, except for double the hard disk space. The system will come with a DualShock 3 controller, and the hard drive will be packed full of demos, videos and other content.

Sony has announced a official PS3 QWERTY Wireless keyboard at the Leipzig Games Convention. The keyboard can attach onto the SIXAXIS or DualShock 3 controllers and can be charged using a USB cable (just like how you charge the controller). The keyboard can also turn into a touch pad (a bumpy one), allowing you to move the cursor in the PS3 Internet Browser, for example.

The keyboard can be used with other devices that support bluetooth keyboards. There are two shortcut buttons on the keyboard; one that takes you to your Friends List, and the other taking you to the Message Box on the PS3 XMB.

This week’s PlayStation Video Store update is in and it quite large. If you are lucky enough to live in the US, you will be able to download new content for 10 television series and rent or buy 18 new movie titles, including Bad Boys, Harry Potter, National Security and more. The top 20 movie and TV downloads have also been revealed once again. Drillbit Taylor remains on top for the second week running followed by Meet the Spartans and Jumper.

Another big update to the US PlayStation Store this week, while Europe gets it’s usual small update. Four new demos hit the US store and Europe get three new ones. As we have previously reported, Warhawk patch v1.5 is due for release on August 27th 2008, after the final phase of testing is complete. The update will be available to download for free and will bring a number of new features and improvements to the online-only game. Dylan Jobe, Game Director for Warhawk, has revealed the list of new features, including custom in-game music and trophy support. Check out the complete list below.

Custom In-game Music:

You can now listen to your own music when playing the game. Warhawk will detect the XMB player and automatically turn off the in-game music.

Trophies:

We revealed the list of Trophies for Warhawk in a previous article so be sure to check it out. There will be 56 trophies in total, 12 of which are available on the booster packs only (four per booster pack), and 10 will be retroactive based on your server stats. Some trophies are hidden but you can see the complete list in our previous article.

Training Tutorials:

It’s difficult for new players to play Warhawk and the skill-levels between players varies largely. In order to help new players learn the controls, weapons etc, Warhawk v1.5 will include four simple tutorials that can be played off-line. Each one focuses on the core principals of each of the 3 modes of gameplay: Infantry, Ground Vehicles and Aircraft.

After completing the tutorials, a trophy will be unlocked, so there is an incentive for more experienced players to give the tutorials a try too.

Retract Clan Invites:

This is a feature many players have requested. Now, for what ever reason, you can take back a clan invite from a user. As there is a maximum number of invites for a clan (64), clan admin’s may decide to reallocate invites as necessary.

New Paint Schemes and Insignias:

20 new paint schemes and 50 new insignia designs are included in v1.5. The new designs were chosen after a competition for European players. All the winning entries will be included in v1.5.

GGL Ceremonial Blades:

Players that took part in the GGL Warhawk Tournament will automatically receive the Ceremonial Knife in place of the standard knife. As for the winners, ARMED^ASSASSIN’s, they will receive the Champion’s Blade automatically. Regular players will keep the standard knife.

"Rookie" Server Color-Coding:

An attractive green color has been added to all official “rookie” server names in the server list. Players that are eligible to play on rookie servers will find these servers sorted to the top of the list automagically for easy selection. To recap the color coding, Blue servers are official Sony hosted servers, Yellow servers are games launched from HOME, and Green servers are reserved for "rookies".

New Booster Pack Rumors:

Jobe has neither confirmed or denied rumors of a new booster pack coming out soon, which is said to include a Jet Pack. Keep your eyes on XTREME PS3 or the PlayStation.Blog for any updates on the booster pack. Jobe did mention more details to be revealed at the Leipzig Game Show.

This week’s PlayStation Video Store update is in. Grace Chen over at the PlayStation blog reports new content for six different TV series, including Nip/Tuck, Xam’d: Lost Memories and Cops. In addition, Chen has also revealed the top 20 movie and TV downloads for the week, with Drillbit Taylor on top, followed by Jumper and Meet the Spartans. Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) have announced that the expansion of PlayStation Home closed beta will begin at the end of the month, and are now accepting applications. Users can apply by downloading the Home XMB Theme from the PlayStation Store. In Europe, SCEE is also beginning their expanded closed beta, directly targeting consumers who have been most active on PlayStation Network and PlayStation Store. SCEE will be in email contact with their PSN audience very shortly.

SCEA will be using a variety of criteria including activity on the PlayStation Network to determine eligibility for the Beta community. Existing beta testers will automatically qualified to be part of the expanded beta. Japan has also started accepting applications in the same way as the US.

The first PlayStation Store update for August is disappointing for European gamers as only four new items make it to the store. The US, however, has received a big update with Episode 3 of Qore now available to download, lots of new game add-on content and videos. If you are looking to get into the Home Closed Beta, be sure to download the Home XMB Theme from the US store – downloading the theme is part of the registration process.
