Adobe Flash and the PSP / PlayStation Vita

May 23rd, 2012 / XTREME PSP / News

When it comes to Flash content, the PS Vita can’t compete with smartphones and tablets. Although the console is still very new, Flash compatibility is one of the features that can help the PS Vita compete against the likes of the iPhone and Android smartphones – of the two platforms, only Android smartphones support Flash.

Accessing content like YouTube or online gaming sites like partypoker could give the PS Vita the edge to compete in the mobile games market. Especially since many PS Vita games cost more than a typical game on the iPhone or Android. Take the Android / iPhone game Plants vs. Zombies.  The games costs just £1.99 on both devices, but £8.99 on the PlayStation Vita for a similar experience.

Even the PSP supports Flash, although it’s out-of-date compared to Android and PC versions. It’s still early days for the PS Vita, but lets hope Flash support is added in a firmware update fairly soon. At lease PS Vita gamers will be able to enjoy Flash content on their portable console, and may even encourage PSP owners to take the leap and upgrade to the Vita.

If the PS Vita had flash support, would you use it? And what for?

Adobe Flash, PSP
