PS4 Rumours Round-up

November 16th, 2012 / Niraj Shah / News

The latest issue of PSM3 magazine has a number of PlayStation 4 rumours, as reported by GameFront.de. According to the magazine, the console won’t be called the ‘PS4’ or ‘PlayStation 4’ as the number 4 is considered unlucky in Japan and has an alternative pronunciation related to death.

The console is rumoured to support 4K resolution (which is 4 times larger than 1080p HD resolution), but apparently this will be limited to movies only. Also, the console is said to lock games to PSN accounts, so playing second-hand titles may not be possible. This should reduce the used games market and hopefully generate more cash for Sony and other publishers.

Another disappointment is the console will lack backwards compatibility, meaning PS3 and PS2 titles will be unplayable on the new console. An odd move, but it’s just a rumour so things could still change. The magazine says the console will cost around €400 – €500 and is likely to be released next year.
