Rumor Alert: PS4 / Orbis to Feature “Native” OpenGL

April 11th, 2012 / Niraj Shah / News

Another remove about the PlayStation 4 / Orbis has been circling recently. This new rumor suggests that Orbis will support OpenGL natively. “OpenGL is a layered API on the PS3,” source have told TheSixthAxis. “It’s much easier to use than LibGCM, which is the main PS3 system.”

So, with the PS3, OpenGL is emulated on top of LibGCM. ”With Orbis, though,” their source added, “OpenGL is native.”

Naturally, we’ve classed this as a rumor until Sony can confirm that Orbis actually exists.
