How do I put the screen on sleep mode?

0

To save power by putting the screen on ‘sleep mode’, simply press and hold the ‘DISPLAY’ button for 3 seconds. To restore the screen, simply press again.

Its a good idea to not activate sleep mode while playing games and the game will continue to function but the screen will be blank.

How do I install another Operating System on the PS3?

0

The PlayStation 3 is able to run another operating system in addition to the XMB. To install the bootloader for another OS, you must obtain the “otheros” installer and install it via the Settings menu: [Settings] > [System Settings] > [Install OtherOS]. OtherOS installations are not supported on the PlayStation 3 Slim model (PS3-2000).

Warning: Only attempt this if you know what you are doing. Only a limited number of operating systems will work on the PS3: Fedora Core Linux (5, 6 and 7) and Yellow Dog Linux 5 are just two examples.

How do I mute the PSP?

0

To mute the sound on your PSP, press and hold down the ‘AUDIO’ button, found near the ‘SELECT’ button on your PSP. To restore audio, simply press again.

How can I backup/restore data on the PS3?

0

The PS3 had a Backup/Restore utility that allows you to backup/restore various data on the PS3. It can be found under: Settings > System Settings > Backup Utility. The backup utility does not backup user settings and copy-protected material, this includes downloaded games, certain game savedata (e.g. Killzone 2 and Guitar Hero 5) and videos downloaded from the PlayStation Video Store.

What Memory Card does my PSP support?

0

The PSP supports any brand of Memory Stick Duo. It supports the standard Duo, Pro Duo, and Duo High Speed, with or without MagicGate technology. Currently the largest available size is 4GB (4000MB), with a 8GB (8000MB) card planned for the future. It is recommended to use either Sony or SanDisk Memory Sticks.

How can I multi-task on the XMB?

0

The PS3 XMB only supports limited multi-tasking capabilities. You can:

  • listen to music while browsing photos
  • can listen to music while surfing the net
  • download from the PlayStation Store while surfing the net, listening to music, playing a video or browsing photos

You cannot:

  • do anything while playing a game
  • do anything while playing a video

To multi-task simply press the PS button and perform another action. For example, listening to music while surfing the Internet can be done by first playing a song. Then, press the PS button and open the Internet Browser. This works similarly for viewing photos while listening to music.

What is the PSP directory structure on the Memory Stick Duo/PSP Memory Card?

0

For Firmware Versions < 2.80

Most PSP’s use the following directory structure.

+ PSP
| - COMMON
| + GAME
| | - UPDATE
| - MUSIC
| - PHOTOS
| - SAVEDATA
| - SYSTEM
+ MP_ROOT

For Firmware Versions 2.80+

Firmware versions 2.80 and above use the following directory structure.

+ PSP
| - COMMON
| + GAME
| | - UPDATE
| - SAVEDATA
| - SYSTEM
+ MUSIC
+ PICTURE
+ VIDEO

The ‘PSP’ directory is the main directory used by the PSP. The ‘MP_ROOT’ directory is where you should store any MP4 video files you want to view using your PSP, in a compatible format.

The ‘GAME’ > ‘UPDATE’ directory is where any firmware updates should be stored as well as bonus levels or extras downloaded for a particular game.

The ‘SAVEDATA’ directory should not be altered in anyway, as it could cause you data to be corrupted, disabling you from loading your saved files correctly.

For Firmware Versions < 2.80

The ‘MUSIC’ and ‘PHOTO’ directories can be used to store music (ATRAC and MP3) and photo (JPG, BMP, PNG, TIFF), respectively. You can use sub-directories to seperate the files as needed.

The “MP_ROOT” folder is used to store video content. (See How do I put videos onto my PSP?)

For Firmware Versions 2.80+

The “MUSIC”, “VIDEO” and “PICTURE” folders can be used to store music (ATRAC and MP3), videos (MP4) and photos (JPG, BMP, PNG, TIFF), respectively

Note: The file structure for firmware version 2.0 is shown. For firmware versions < 2.0, do not add the "COMMON" and "SYSTEM" folders. For firmware versions 2.80+, the "MP_ROOT" folder has been renamed to "VIDEO" and the "MUSIC" folder has been moved to the root of the Memory Stick. The "PHOTO" folder has been renamed to "PICTURE" and moved to the root of the Memory Stick.

How do I create a new user?

0

Go to “Users” on the far left of the XMB and select “Create New User”. The new user name can be up to 16 characters.

PlayStation Home patch 1.04 out now

0

The new PlayStation Home patch is now available to download, but it’s not what we expected. The patch is primarily to solve connection issues some gamers are experiencing when trying to connect to the PlayStation Home servers. As a result, voice chat has been disabled to take some load of the servers. Until the service is enabled again, you will have to use text chat or "phone friend" to communicate. Abigail Murphy, PR Manager for PlayStation Network, recommends using the Wireless Keypad for PLAYSTATION 3 or any USB or Bluetooth-enabled keyboard.

Once the chat service is back online, the PlayStation.Blog will be updated with the latest information. Until then, why not download the new patch and try connecting to the servers to see if you can get online.
