PlayStation Network will be offline for routine scheduled maintenance on Thursday, January 19th from approximately 8am until 9pm PST. That’s a massive 13 hours of downtime. As usual, PlayStation Network services will be unavailable during this time. Users who are already signed into their account on PlayStation Network before the start of the maintenance should be able to stay signed in to their online session, but will not be able to access any of the services listed below.

Starhawk Launching on May 8th, Public Beta Starts Today

You may be happy to learn that Starhawk will be hitting store shelves May 8th. In addition, the Public Beta opens today so you can see what the game has to offer before the game’s release. If you were in the Private Beta you know what to expect, plus some key things listed below. For those of you new to Starhawk and the Public Beta, check out the quick primer video below.
New Gran Turismo 5 DLC And Update Incoming

A new DLC pack is making it’s way to Gran Turismo 5 very soon – 18th January to be exact. This new pack has two components, the first of which features brand new cars, and will be priced at €5.99/£4.79. The second component of the new content is the Speed Test Pack, which will be priced at €3.99/£3.19. In addition to the new DLC, Functionality Update v2.03 will also be released.
New College Sports App Available on PSN

Sony have launched two college sports applications on the PlayStation Network today to complement your sports entertainment experience. Through the XOS College Sports and SEC Digital Network applications, PS3 users now have access to a customizable college sports platform to stream current and classic content on-demand, and make the PS3 the first and only gaming console to offer these applications.
Netflix is Coming to PlayStation Vita

As you may have heard during today’s Sony Electronics press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, PlayStation and Netflix are teaming up again to bring tens of thousands of hours of movies and TV episodes from Netflix to the PS Vita for US customers.
PlayStation Plus Content Update for UK

This month, PlayStation Plus subscribers can look forward to up to 100% discounts on a number of PSN and PS3 titles. The first PlayStation Plus update is already live on the PlayStation Store, and includes all five episodes of Back to the Future: The Game available to download for free.
Netflix App Appears On UK PS3s

PS3 owners living in the UK and Ireland will notice a new icon on the TV/Video Services section of the XMB. The Netflix app is only 14MB in size, but isn’t completely functional yet. The service will be available in the UK and Ireland soon, so the app only displays a “coming soon” message and allows you to sign-up for a notification email once the service is available.
PlayStation Vita Sales Still Slow in Week 1 of 2012

This week’s Japanese hardware sales charts show that the brand new PS Vita has sold only 42,648 units in the last week. That’s actually less units than the PSP sold (62,746 units to be exact) and considerably less than the 3DS (which moved nearly 200,000 machines).

The Final Fantasy X remake was originally announced back at the Tokyo Game Show in September 2011. According to Yoshinori Kitase, a producer for the original FFX, the PS3 and PlayStation Vita versions will be more than just a HD remaster – the game will be completely remade.
