Ubisoft to Stop Producing Paper Game Manuals

April 21st, 2010 / Niraj Shah / News

It’s good to see games companies doing their bit for the environment. Ubisoft, publisher of many games including Assassin’s Creed and Prince of Persia, is set to eliminate manuals from their PS3 and XBox 360 packaging, replacing them with digital manuals available on the disc, much like Sony did with the PSOne classics.

The company calls it a green initiative – thought the change will also save money for Ubisoft, in addition to helping the environment. Once question now remains – will you miss paperback manuals? To be honest, I’ve never really looked at a game manual except for the artwork and screenshots.

How do you feed about the change? Do you believe other publishers will follow Ubisoft’s lead?

I think it’s a good move, a lot of people probably never even open their manual [me included]. Though, I hope it means a price drop for us consumers as well. Otherwise why should we pay the same for a cut down package?

I think its a great cause, but the ptoblem is that many people, such as myself, think that its better to have physical discs and manuals. Maybe ubisoft could use some sort of material that is made out recycled items. Anyway, this depends on if other studios follow because I dont know of any Ubisoft games that I want that I are coming out soon.
