Sony has released a new firmware update for the PS4, updating the system software to version 12.00. Although the latest update has a major version number change, it does not include an new features or substantial changes.
Interestingly, this update does not contain any security or stability fixes, at least not officially according to the release notes.
The update is optional, which means it’s not absolutely needed to enjoy games. However, Sony may later force gamers to update to this version in order to access the PlayStation Network and play games online.
