All the Announcements from the August 2020 State of Play

Yesterday evening, Sony has a State of Play broadcast focusing on upcoming games for the PS4 and PS5. The 42-minute broadcast covered previously announced games with new footage and details, and completely new game announcements.

Summary

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time

New mode, playable characters and more information was revealed for Crash Bandicoot 4, ahead of the game’s October release date. New details include:

Hitman III

Hitman III will include PS VR support at launch. In addition, VR support will be added to the entire trilogy. Hitman III launches in January 2021. More details on VR support for the previous games in the trilogy will be revealed in the coming months.

Braid: Anniversary Edition

Braid: Anniversary Edition was announced for the PS4 and PS5, and will be releasing in early 2021. The game is being updated to run in 4K with re-painted graphics, adding further details to characters and environments. The sound is also getting a pass over, making it richer and more-detailed.

Players will be able to switch between the old and new graphics and sound at any time so see the difference between the two versions.

The Pathless

A new gameplay trailer for The Pathless was revealed in the broadcast, along with new details on the game. The Pathless is an open world adventure set in a mythical forest. You’re cast as the Hunter, a master of archery who can bound across the open spaces, filling her dash meter by shooting little talismans.

Unlike most open world games, The Pathless doesn’t have a world map. Instead, you can look into the spirit world and see landmarks, and where you’ve been. Be sure to check out the segment on this game in the broadcast above.

Spelunky 2

Spelunky 2 is launching on the PS4 on 15th September 2020, and a new trailer was revealed in the broadcast. The game will feature co-op and versus multiplayer modes.

In addition to Adventure Mode, the game also includes Deathmatch and a new competitive mode called Hold the Idol. The game will also feature improved interface, new features, and extended customization.

Genshin Impact

A new trailer for Genshin Impact was revealed at the State of Play broadcast, and the game will be releasing on the PS4 this Fall. The game can be enjoyed solo, or you can go co-op with up to 3 other friends. The game will also support cross-play with PC, iOS and Android.

Aeon Must Die!

Aeon Must Die! was announced for the PS4 – a brand new take on the beat ‘em up genre that blends slick action combat with an existential sci-fi epic across the galaxy.

A trailer for the game was revealed in the broadcast, and will be heading to the PS4 in 2021.

Anno: Mutationem

Releasing on the PS4 in December 2020, Anno: Mutationem was announced by ThinkingStarts. The game is a combination of 2D & 3D modes, action and adventure gameplay, with some RPG-elements all set in a cyberpunk world.

Bugsnax

Bugsnax was first released in the PS5 reveal event back in June, and will be heading to the PS4 and PS5 later this year. A new trailer for the game was revealed in the broadcast.

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR series

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series is a three-part experience that takes place on Mustafar, the lava-filled planet that is home to Darth Vader’s fortress.

Gameplay footage of the game was shown off in the broadcast, with the game being just weeks away from release. The game releases on 25th August 2020 on PlayStation VR.

Control

Control will be getting a new expansion called AWE or Altered World Event. This is the second and final expansion to Control, to be released on 27th August 2020, which is also Control’s one year anniversary.

Auto Chess

Auto Chess has been announced for the pS4 with a brand new trailer, and will be releasing on 31st October 2020. The has been available on PC and mobile for a while, but it’s the first title from this subgenre to launch on the PS4.

The Pedestrian

The Pedestrian is a 2.5D puzzle platformer themed around the public sign system. You play as a 2D character moving through signs in a dynamic 3D world. You progress through the game by rearranging and connecting public signs to explore and advance through each environment.

The game is heading to the PS4 and PS5 in January 2021.

Hood: Outlaws & Legends

Hood: Outlaws & Legends is a new game announced for the PS5 from Sumo Newcastle. The game has been in development for the past 18 months and the first teaser trailer for the game was revealed in the State of Play broadcast.

Hood is a multiplayer heist game that blends combat, stealth, and strategy. You will assemble a team of Outlaws as you attempt to steal treasures from an oppressive government known as The State in a dark and gritty reimagining of the Robin Hood legend.

The game will be heading to the PS5 in 2021.

TemTem

TemTem is another new game for the PS5, heading to the console in 2021. Temtem is a massively multiplayer creature-collection journey where you seek adventure in the lovely Airborne Archipelago alongside your Temtem squad. 

Players can catch every Temtem, challenge other tamers, customize their house, or join a friend’s adventure in a fully co-op experience.

Godfall

New gameplay footage from this PS5 game was revealed in the broadcast focusing on combat and gameplay, with commentary from the game director. The footage was captured on the PS5 development kit.
