Square Enix has announced that future DLC for Final Fantasy XV have been cancelled, including Episodes Aranea, Noctis, and Lunafreya. Episode Ardyn is still in development and will be released in March 2019, while the multiplayer expansion Comrades will be released as a standalone title.

A significant investment on development of these DLCs were already made, and Square Enix will be writing off $33 million as an “extraordinary loss” as a result. It was also revealed that Hajime Tabata has resigned and now plans to start up his own company.

In the announcement, Tabata said, “I honestly believe the reason we were able to get this far is because of all you loyal fans. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.” He continued, “I have a project that I truly wish to solidify as my next challenge after FFXV. For that reason, I have decided to leave my current position and start my own business in order to achieve my goal.”

Final Fantasy XV’s Comrades multiplayer, which is set to release on 13th December, will now be a standalone game called FFXV: Multiplayer Comrades. The title will come with 10 new bosses, more costumes and weapons. Luckily, the new title will be free for gamers who previously bought the DLC for FFXV.

Cancelled, Final Fantasy XV, PS4, Square-Enix
