Upcoming PS4 Firmware to add Share Enhancements and turn HDCP Off

March 19th, 2014 / Niraj Shah / News

Sony has revealed that a new firmware update is in the works and will be releasing in coming weeks. The firmware update will be bringing some of the most requested features to the PS4, including removal of HDCP so you can capture gameplay via HDMI and USB drive support to allow exporting of screenshots and videos recorded using the Share button.

The update also adds a better video editor with a simple tool to personalise your video clips. The removal of HDCP from gameplay will allow gamers to capture gameplay footage to external devices using the HDMI port, so you’re no longer restricted to using the Share button.

As part of a separate system software update in the future, Sony will be adding the ability for Twitch broadcasts to be be archived. Broadcasts will be also provided with a higher resolution of 720p, so PS4 fans can enjoy live broadcasts with clearer images.
