Sony Considering MP3 and DLNA Support for PS4

October 31st, 2013 / Niraj Shah / News

Following the release of the ultimate PS4 FAQ yesterday, a lot of users were unhappy to find that some commonly used PS3 functionality would be missing from the PS4, including MP3 and Audio CD playback and media streaming. The response from users has not fallen on deaf ears, with Sony’s President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, saying that the feedback will be passed onto the PS4 development team.

The FAQs on the PlayStation.Blog have also been updated to say “*We appreciate your feedback and are exploring possibilities.” Yoshida tweeted the following:

Thanks for the feedback to the lack of MP3 and DLNA support at the launch of PS4. I’ll share with the PS4 Dev team for future consideration.

— Shuhei Yoshida (@yosp) October 30, 2013

After that, he’s had a “very good” discussion with that dev team, and they’re really happy to learn that people use the PS4′s media features so much. So, they obviously just misjudged how much people wanted a media device.

Had a very good discussion w the PS4 Dev team today. We’re happy & appreciative to learn so many people use and like PS3’s media features.

Hopefully, the functionally will be added to the console in a future firmware update.
