PS4 Won’t Block Used Games

Sony Worldwide Studios boss, Shuhei Yoshida, has told Eurogamer that the PS4 won’t be blocking used games, contrary to recent rumours, but good news for gamers. Speaking in a interview hours after the PS4 was revealed, Yoshida confirmed that “used games can play on PS4.” It turns out the recent patent filing by Sony to block used games wasn’t related to the PS4 at all, thankfully.

In the interview, Yoshida has to refer to the PR representative in the room when trying to remember the company’s official stance on used games. When asked about second-hand games, Yoshida said “[Consumers] purchase physical form, they want to use it everywhere, right? So that’s my expectation,” siding with consumers.

Now, that just leaves Microsoft and the next Xbox console, which is also rumoured to block used games. If Microsoft takes the opposite approach to Sony (which is unlikely), it could mean bad news for the next-generation Xbox.
