Report Indicates PS3 has Shipped More Units than Xbox 360

January 10th, 2013 / Niraj Shah / News

A new report from IDC, which forecasts the computer games industry for 2012-2016 and published last month, indicated that the PS3 has shifted more units than the Xbox 360 as of December 2012. The report highlights that Sony has shipped 77 million consoles to date, compared to 76 million Xbox 360 consoles.

The Xbox 360 has a year’s head start over the PS3, but the two consoles still fall far behind the Wii. With the next-generation consoles from both Sony and Microsoft not far off, focus has shifted to the Wii U. The IDC report forecasts that Nintendo will reach global shipments of 50 million units by the end of 2016.
