TGS 2012: Sony Unveils “Super Slim” PS3

September 19th, 2012 / Niraj Shah / News

Sony has unveiled the new smaller and lighter PS3 model, known as CECH-4000, at Tokyo Games Show earlier today. The new model will come with two different configurations and will be launching in September and October, respectively. The new model is 20% smaller, and weighs 25% less than the current Slim model.

The internal architecture has been completely redesigned, making it half the size of the original 60GB launch model. The new model adopts a sliding disc cover, instead of the loading slot in the previous two models.

The 500GB model will be available from September 28th 2012, and will come bundled with FIFA 2012, retailing for €299.99. The wallet-friendly 12GB version will arrive on October 12th 2012, and will retail for €229.99.

With the 12GB flash memory version, owners will be able to attach a 5″ internal SATA hard drive with use of official Mounting Bracket, or opt to purchase an official PlayStation 250GB internal HDD.

In addition to introducing the new PS3 models, Sony has also revealed the PS3 Essentials line-up, featuring some of the best PS3 titles at budget prices. Games in the PS3 Essentials collection will retail for around €19.99, and downloadable from the PlayStation Store for €14.99 (titles marked with an *).
