PlayStation 3 GameOS Leaked

Despite Sony’s attempt to thwart hackers by removing the OtherOS functionality in the recent Firmware 3.21 update, two hackers, going by the names of JaicraB and DemonHades, have managed to extract the GameOS from the system and leak it publicly. What does mean? Now that the code for the GameOS is publicly available, others can reverse engineer the code and discover new exploits in the system.

New exploits in the GameOS can lead to homebrew games / applications and even piracy of games. If Sony is threatened any new exploits, we can see more PS3 functionality removed in the future. Sony and the PS3 has done well to prevent hackers gaining access to the system, unlike the PSP, but is slowly losing its tight grip.

While we don’t mind homebrew applications on the PS3 to expand functionality, we don’t condone game piracy. It hurts the games industry and will result in sub-standard games from developers.
