Final Fantasy XIII has taken the UK by storm. Not only has the title topped the all-format video game chart, it has also become the fastest selling game this year, overtaking Battlefield: Bad Company 2. As for sales between the PS3 and Xbox 360, the PS3 has gained more sales but only slightly. Although specific numbers are not availabe, the PS3 accounts for 54% of the six-figure sales in the first week.
As the Final Fantasy franchise has been primarily associated with the PlayStation brand, the results are not surprising, though we expected the sales to be more skewed to PlayStation. Clearly, a lot of Final Fantasy fans own a Xbox 360 or are just keen to see what all the fuss is about.
There is no doubt that Square Enix, and indeed Microsoft, are pleased to gain such results in the first week of release.
