The PlayStation Network has been experiencing issues since last night, we many gamers reporting connection issues and “8001050F” error codes. The side-effects of the PSN issues is causing a host of other problems including trophy corruption issues and failure to boot or play certain games.
Issues include trophy information disappearing from the XMB, the PS3 time and date being reset to 1999 and even some games not booting and kicking the user back to the XMB. The problems are many affecting gamers in the US, though reports from Europe and Asia are also coming in. One of the comments on the Joystiq is:
There was a problem loading trophies and it said I should quit/reload game, but it makes no difference. Demon Souls trophies have disappeared from trophy list and I’m unable to log in to PSN or sync.
Sony are aware of the issues and are working to resolve the issues. “Know that we have narrowed down the issue and have engineers working to restore service,” says Jeff Rubenstein, Social Media Manager for SCEA, on the PlayStation.Blog early this morning.
Apparently something to do with it being a leap year, this year. The one less day in Feb is causing a bug in the fat PS3 system to become apparent. So it’s not a PSN issue, rather a PS3 console issue since our brethren with the PS3 slim are running fine. Wonder how sony will fix this if gamers have problems getting to the network for an update!?!?
Rumour has it the problem should sort itself out after today…
I really do hope so, or Sony are able to release a fix. Just hope there isn’t a mass recall like with 360’s RROD!!!

Anyway, this should cause issues. If it does, then that’s just poor programming in Sony’s part. It’s like the Y2K bug all over again!

“Sony has stated on their Twitter account that they are fixing the problem and to stay tuned for further updates.”

@Niraj Shah yes it’s not a leap, my bad! But it’s definitely a problem with the PS3 rather than PSN, since offline players can’t even load up their games. Scores are complaining about corrupt/losing save files and trophies… :S
