Sony: PS3 Disc Drive Errors Not A Firmware Issue

October 2nd, 2009 / / News
10

When firmware 3.0 was first released, there were many reports of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune freezing and various parts in the game. Since then, Sony release Firmware v3.01 to patch the issue. While the optional patch did work for some, it also caused more problems for others. The comments section of PlayStiaton Blog’s Firmware 3.01 announcement has been overwhelmed by user reports of disc drive errors since Firmware 3.00 and 3.01 were released; most commonly, read errors reportedly occur when running Blu-ray games or movies, but in some alleged cases plain old DVDs are not working either.

Eurogamer has reached Sony for comment, and the console manufacturer has denied responsibility for the apparent drive failure, declaring it “not an issue with the firmware.” In other words, corresponding repair costs are currently placed squarely on the shoulders of the affected consumers. If you are affected by the issue, you will have to send your unit to Sony and pay £128 / $149 to get it repaired if you are out of warranty.

Bad Sony go to your room with no dinner, at least try to find out what is causing the failures.

@john reread the phrase , you didn’t understand what i said , i said at least they are not giving up (SONY) , like MS (Microsoft) did with the xbox 360 , in other meaning Sony keeps on trying and trying releasing new stuff with upgraded hardware to avoid faulty systems.

Does this error happen at random, or is it only certain models / serial batches etc?
