With the release of Firmware 3.00, the BBC iPlayer was also updated by the BBC. The new version offers improved video quality and an enhanced user interface. The first version of BBC iPlayer for the PS3 was released last December and didn’t support full screen mode or H.264 playback. Anthony Rose, head of digital media technology for the BBC, has heaped praise on Sony’s efforts in improving Flash playback on the PS3.
Anthony Rose:
“Sony have done a great job of enhancing the PS3’s Flash playback experience, and the latest V3.0 firmware update now includes hardware acceleration in full-screen mode, allowing for a substantial improvement in the playback experience.
Over the past year, we’ve also done a lot of tuning and enhancements to our iPlayer video encoding, including adding a new 1500Kbps “SD quality” format. Put the two together and the result is an iPlayer on PS3 with brilliant video quality – almost as good as broadcast television!”
If its not for US i dont care
Improved? I hate to imagine what it looked like before. I thought it was going to be high quality – apparently not.
