Following the announcement of Firmware 4.00 earlier this week, the update is now available to download. According to the Japanese changelog, the new features to the PSP System Software include a new [Internet Search] icon under [Network] and ability to change playback speed of videos stored on the Memory Card. You can update your PSP using the network update feature from the settings menu. The full changelog is included below.

Firmware 4.00 Changelog:

  • Network
    • [Internet Search] has been added as a feature. You can now perform an Internet search directly from the PSP Home Menu.
  • Video
    • [Playback Speed (+)] and [Playback Speed (-)] have been added as options to the control panel. You can now change the playback speed of video content saved on Memory Stick Duo media.

This is stupid! We don’t need an individual button for Google searches!!!

the psp will never get a flash player upgrade; the psp has flash player 5 and to play youtube or any other internet videos, you have to have flash player 9 and that is entirely too much memory. the highest SONY could boost the psp’s flash player is flash player 7 and what would be the use of that if we can’t play videos on the internet? I’m glad i have CFW and can download all my games 4 free….otherwise i wouldn’t have a psp…lol

This update sucks. The “big” 4.0 and they only release crap we dont need.

    -Give me PDF support.
-Memory card saved bookmarks option for my pictures folders, podcasts and videos.
-The ability to save web pages to the memory card and to pull them up off line.
-Give me a word builder, a software keyboard, or something similar that makes it easier to type faster online.
-The ability to play memory card music while I play games, or browse online, instead of just while I watch pictures.

It is unlikely for a flash update, true any higher and we could at least watch flash videos from the PSP, but the limited memory would put a stop to that and Sony doesn’t want to hear complaints on that front.

PDF support is doable, and may come out later when the keyboard peripheral is either about to launch or has launched.

That bookmark option would be nice, especially for pictures. Same goes for being able to save web pages since you can already view them once they are on the memory stick.

Music is a no go, the homebrew community has proven it difficult and Sony mismanages too much of the PSP’s resources to make it possible. Now if they hadn’t unlocked 333MHz to developers and used the extra RAM for caching files then it would be more then possible for Sony, so you will just have to wait for another hardware revision.

Finally, getting so very tired of the 200 character limit as it seems like I’m the only one who comes close in their posts.

Just for you Korlithiel, we’ve upped the limit to 500 characters. If this is still too short for you, give us another shout!
