PSPgo Gets Hacked

This week, we’ve already had the discovery of the PS3 ‘root key’, but now it seems to be the PSP’s time in the hacking spotlight. Videos doing the rounds today show an ISO loader running on the previously hack-proof PSPgo. Sony’s battel with piracy on the PSP is well known, and the PSPgo was an attempt to counter the attempts.

It’s only been a few days since the PS3 ‘root key’ was discovered and already a Custom Firmware has been created by homebrew developer KaKaRoTo. Naturally, due to legal issues, the developer has refrained from releasing the firmware to the public but has made available all the tools needed to create your own custom firmware (providing you have some coding knowledge).

GeoHot is at it again! The PlayStation 3’s “Root Key” was discovered by a group of hackers last week and has been published by famed hacker GeoHot. The root key allows PS3 users to run homebrew applications without the need for dongles and devices like the PS3 Jailbreak.

PSPgo Hacked Already

While Sony went to great lengths towards preventing a repeat of the Pandora battery hack on PSPgo, they evidently forgot to patch up some existing security vulnerabilities on the software side. Mere days after the launch of the new hardware, homebrew developer FreePlay has managed to run unsigned code on it. Below is a video clip showing off his efforts in the form of a “Hello World!” proof of concept.
