The latest financial figures from Sony show that PS5 sales have continued to grow, and now exceed 59 million units. The PS5 sold 20.8 million units in the last financial year, ending 31st March 2024. However, the overall PS5 sales were just shy of Sony’s 21 million unit forecast.

In FY2022, Sony sold 19.1 million units, indicating a growth of approximately 1.7 million units compared to the previous year. The financial report further discloses that the average ratio of digital downloads to physical game sales has reached 70%, signaling a significant shift towards digital purchases.

The number of active PlayStation Plus users now also stands at 118 million, but peaked at 123 million in Q3. The report did not reveal the number of PlayStation Subscribers for FY2023

Sony has also revealed that former PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan’s job will be divided between two new roles. President of SIE Worldwide Studios Hermen Hulst will step up to be CEO of the new Studio Business Group. Hideaki Nishino will be appointed CEO of SIE’s Platform Business Group. The pair will assume their roles on 1st June. Interim CEO Hiroki Totoki will step away from that role to become Chairman of SIE, but both Hermen and Nishino-san will report to Totoki-san as SIE Chairman.
