Cyberpunk 2077 Sells 13 Million Copies

The hype around Cyberpunk was real, with the game securing 8 million pre-orders before the launch, and this despite the console version never being shown off prior to release. Since then, the game sold an additional 5 million copies, bring the total to over 13 million units sold across physical and digital mediums on all platforms.

CD Projekt Red issues a statement last week estimating that sales had exceeded 13 million units worldwide, and also taking into account refunds. Both Sony and Microsoft pulled the game from the digital stores and started to offer refunds a few weeks back.

The game was developed to work on last-generation consoles including the PS4 and Xbox One, but both platforms suffered multiple bugs and crashes, and slow frame rates. The games played better on the higher-spec “pro” consoles, including the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, but only the current gen PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles were able to play the game properly thanks to Game Boost modes.

Cyberpunk has been patched multiple times over the last few weeks, with further major patches expected in the New Year to fix the remaining bugs and stability issues. This could also mean the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game could be pushed out further into 2021.
