PS5 Specs Officially Revealed

Earlier today, Mark Cerny presented a very technical session on the PS5’s system architecture, and what we can expect from the upcoming console. The presentation has revealed the PS5’s official specs and has confirmed features like backwards compatibility, Ultra HD Blu-ray drive and SSD size.

You can find the official specs of the PS5 below, which includes a 8-core CPU, 16GB of GDDR6 RAM and a oddly-sized 825 GB SSD hard drive. It’s also confirmed that the PS5 will include a Ultra HD Blu-ray drive – something that the PS4 Pro was missing.

In terms of backwards compatibility, Sony has tested the top 100 games (ranked by play time), and expects almost all of them to be playable at launch. The PS4 has over 4000 titles, so it may take some time to test and improve backwards compatibility.

As mentioned, the PS5 will ship with a 825 GB SSD. While this may sound low, the console will support expandable storage using third-party SSD drives. The PS5 will support certain third-party M2 SSD drives, which will be revealed soon (once Sony has tested commercially available drives).
