Project Morpheus is 85% Complete According to Shuhei Yoshida

Shuhei Yoshida, who is leading the development of Project Morpheus, has revealed to the Wall Street Journal that development on the device is 85% complete. The virtual reality headset uses many of the components used in smartphones, helping to keep the price down. Unfortunately, Yoshida didn’t hint on a release date for the device, even with competition from Oculus Rift and Samsung’s Gear VR headset.

Game users are Sony’s first target audience, but Yoshida said he hoped to attract non-gamers eventually. He sees Morpheus as more than just a gaming accessory, stating that it could be used in the classroom by teachers for students to get a more in depth look at various subjects.

Sony hasn’t revealed any new information on the headset, so we’ll have to wait for an official announcement on price and release date. Hopefully, we’ll see the device in the hands of consumes in early 2015.
