PS4 Shortages to be Fixed in Summer

March 24th, 2014 / Niraj Shah / News

Sony’s next-gen console is still affected with supply shortages, and the company has told the WSJ that it doesn’t expect to meet demand before this summer. The console is now available in every major territory, including Sony’s home country of Japan, where 300,000 units were sold in the first week.

“We’re struggling to keep up with demand,” which has been highest in the U.S. and Europe, said Andrew House at GDC in San Francisco. “Conservatively, as we get into the early summer months, we’ll be closer to a full supply situation.”

With six million global sales so far, the console has had a great start, exceeding sales of both the Xbox One and Wii U, but its still got a long way to go before Sony can declare victory. Once supply catches up with demand, it will be interesting to see how the sales figures stack up, expecially since the console market is shrinking.
