PS4 Firmware v1.50 Can Be Downloaded in the Background While Playing Single-Player Games

If you’re worried about waiting to download the 300 MB patch for the PS4 on launch day, you’ll be happy to know that the firmware update can be downloaded in the background, while playing single-player titles. Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has confirmed that the patch, which adds various features to the console, can be downloaded in the background.

As the patch adds online multiplayer, Remote Play functionality, DVD and Blu-ray playback, and other advertised features to the console, you’ll be limited to playing single-player games while the update downloads. Or you can spend the time playing around with the Dynamic Menu and learning to use the new interface.

If you have a decent broadband connection, the patch won’t take too long to download. You’re looking at a 10-12 minute wait to download the patch on a 4 MB connection, and a few more minutes for installation.
