Sony Details PS3 to PS4 Game Upgrade Programe

First announced at Gamescom in August, Sony revealed that gamers would be able to upgrade selected PS3 games to the PS4 versions for a small fee, allowing you to play the latest games before Sony’s new console hits the market. Sony has now revealed more details on how this will work. Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, NBA 2K14 and Watch Dogs will be supported, with both physical and digital copies.

You’ll be able to upgrade from any of the above games from £9.99 (or £11.99 in the case of NBA) to receive a digital copy of the title on PS4. If you purchased the digital version of any of the above games, you’ll be able to download the discounted version right from the PS4 Store when you get access.

For physical copies, you’ll get a PSN code to purchase the discounted PS4 version. You’ll be able to purchase the discounted PS4 version without having a PS4, so all you need to do is download the game once you get your new console. You won’t be able to trade in the PS3 version, however. The disc will be needed in the PS4 to launch the digital version of the game.

The upgrade program is also time-limited. You’ll have until January 31st, 2014 (for Assassin’s Creed IV and Watch_Dogs), March 28th (for Battlefield 4), or March 31st (for Call of Duty: Ghosts) to upgrade your copies of the game.
