All PS4 Games will have PS Vita Remote Play Functionality Says Developer

A developer working on PS4 games has told Digital Foundry that all PS4 games that don’t support the PS4’s camera requires Remote Play functionality with the PS Vita. Remote Play hasn’t seen a lot of support in the past, even with the PSP console, so this is good news if the details are accurate. Sony has already stated that the long term plan is to have most PS4 games playable on the PS Vita via Remote Play.

Since the PS4 has bespoke hardware dedicated to video encoding, the ability to Remote Play games is built right into the console and operating system itself, unlike what we’ve seen with the PS3, which usually included hacked together support with often negative results. The PS4 will allow developers to support Remote Play almost effortlessly thanks to the PS4’s hardware and software features.

Let’s hope Sony has more to say on the issue come E3 next month. If true, the Remote Play compatibility is sure to shift more PS Vita units when Sony’s new console is released.
