Sony Stops Japanese Shipments of the PlayStation 2

Sony has stopped shipping the PlayStation 2 in Japan according to Famitsu. The console, which was launched back in 2000, has sold over 154 million units worldwide, and still remains the primary PlayStation console in certain territories. Its uncertain if Sony will stop shipments to other countries too, but with the rumoured PS4 reveal on the horizon, it’s likely to happen soon.

PS2 games have been in decline since the PS3 was launched back in 2006, expect for the annual sports titles that still grace the console, including the likes of FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer. The PS2 reigns as the best selling console of all times, just ahead of the Nintendo DS by over a million units.
