Final Fantasy XIII-2 Release Date Announcement Coming Soon

The sequel to Final Fantasy XIII was announced back in January of this year with a simple release window of Winter 2011. Gaming news site Andriasang reports that the Final Fantasy XIII-2 director has hinted during a Q&A session held over the weekend that the role playing game’s final release date will be announced by Square Enix during this year’s Tokyo Game Show.

It was also confirmed that those who still have the Final Fantasy XIII save data on their consoles will get some bonus goodies in the sequel. The story itself will be shorter than the original title, but the title has more mini-games so the play time should easily exceed that of the original.

As for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, it is still the only game without a confirmed release window. All that might soon change, since work on both XIII-2 and the handheld title, Final Fantasy Type-0 nearing are completion. Square Enix is finally in a position to devote all their JRPG-making resources to Versus XIII.

Yoshinori Kitase assured games that they are now “giving 100% to development” for Versus XIII and Type-0, the latter of which is already coming out in Japan next month.
