New PS3 Slims 200g Lighter, 15% More Efficient

April 26th, 2010 / Niraj Shah / News
1

Remember the new PS3 Slim models we wrote about a while back? The new models are 200 grams lighter than the first model thanks to smaller parts and a reduction in the size of the graphics chip. Sony has reduced the size of the RSX graphics processer from its previous 65 nano-meters to just 45nm.

In addition to a reduction in weight, the new graphics chip has reduced power consumption by 15% compared to the 120GB CECH-2000A PS3 Slim sporting a 65-nm RSX, making it more energy efficient. All the changes in the new model account for a cheaper production cost, hopefully turning a profit for Sony.

Lol, finally after 3.5 years the ps3 just might start to make Sony a couple of dollars.
