Sony Frees Additional 70MB Memory For PS3 Developers

March 4th, 2010 / / News
1

The PlayStation University has discovered that the memory used by the PS3’s operating system has reduced from 120MB to 50MB. This upgrade that Sony implemented via the firmware updates means that an additional 70MB worth of memory has been freed up for developers to utilise.

Patrick Seybold of SCEA confirmed the update to Joystiq. “Since the launch of the PS3, we have been continuously making efforts to reinforce our support system to game developers, allowing them to express their creativity freely on the PS3. As part of this support for game development, the size of the PS3 OS memory footprint has been reduced through network update for the game developers.”

Though 70MB isn’t a great deal of extra memory, it should however give the PS3 a good little boost. Hopefully it’ll give a much needed hand to developers finding it difficult to port games to the PS3.
