PS3 Firmware 3.20 Will Include 3D Support

The latest firmware update for the PS3 was recently released to developers to install on “debug” consoles. Some images of the new firmware have been leaked (as usual) and clearly shows a “3D video output” option. With the release of the first 3D TVs just months away, Sony is already preparing to add 3D support to the PS3.

As you can see from the images below, the feature appears to be included in the 3.20 release. SCEA’s John Koller, speaking at CES in January, said that, “It’s gonna take just a simple firmware update which most people do regularly anyway, and that’s all it’s gonna take to accolade the PS3 to 3D gaming.”

A separate firmware update will be required to activate 3D for Blu-Ray movies, however, and gamers will need a 3D Stereoscopic TV in order to enjoy the 3D experience.
