The story in Heavy Rain is so deep and powerful that it’s hard not to emotions when playing the game. The reason why this game is designed for a mature audience is because it requires an emotional response from a player. Some decisions you have to make in the game can have you second guessing yourself, and this is exactly what Quantic Dreams want. A scene from the game (see below) shows one of the tough decisions you have to make.
“With Heavy Rain we try to make you feel an empathy, make you smile, and make you cry. We try to make you feel what the characters feel, even if it’s discomfort,” David Cage said in a interview with CVG. The below clip demonstrates just how emotionally exhausting this game is.
