PS4 Firmware 6.00 Beta Invites Going Out

If you’re previously signed up to take part in PS4 Firmware beta tests, check your inbox because invites for testing PS4 Firmware 6.00 are going out at the moment. Unfortunately, at this stage the update “does not include any new major consumer-facing features,” according to the email invite, so we don’t know what the upcoming firmware update has in store for gamers.

If you’ve been lucky enough to receive the email, you’ll be able to get a PSN code to access the firmware beta. The code needs to be redeemed on the PlayStation Store, which will grant you access to update your console to Firmware 6.00 Beta 2.

After you’ve redeemed the code, head over to [System Software Update] and you’ll be able to update your console to the beta version. If you are planning to update to the beta version, be sure to backup your console first, as the beta software is likely to be unstable.

If you are unhappy with the beta version, you can downgrade to the latest stable version, which is currently v5.55. The update notes also indicates that Extended Storage drives will not work if you downgrade back to v5.55, and you’ll have to wait until the stable (official) version of v6.00 has been released before the Extended Storage works again.
