A new minor firmware update has been released for the PS3, updating the system software to v4.82. The PS3 hasn’t had a major firmware update since 2013, but it’s good to see Sony is continuing to patch the PS3 to fix bugs and security issues. The update is mandatory, and is required to access the PlayStation Network.
Although not confirmed, the main reason for this update is to fix an exploit found in PS3 Firmware v4.81 earlier this month codenamed PS3Xploit.
The official changelog states:
- This system software update improves the quality of the system performance.
