Heavy Rain and God of War III are just two of the PlayStation 3 exclusives that have been lauded by critics and loved by you, the PlayStation fans, in the last year. Both can now add recognition from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) to their list of accomplishments.
According to the latest sales data from VGChartz, God of War 3 has already sold over 2 million copies in five weeks since release. God of War III joins the other PlayStation 3 exclusives to break the 2 million mark, including Uncharted 2, LittleBigPlanet and Resistance. In addition, SOCOM: Confrontation has finally broken the 1 million mark.
A number of high-profile games have been released in Q1 of 2010, from the 256-player MAG to the first Final Fantasy title for the PlayStation 3. In the last few weeks along, Final Fantasy XIII, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and God of War III all sold a large number of copies in their opening weeks. But which game is leading so far?
If a recent PlayStation Magazine scan is to be believed, God of War III will be getting some downloadable content soon. However, this is no ordinary content. The scan shows that the game will be getting some kind of multiplayer content, expanding the current single-player aspect of the game. God of War III has received a software update, bringing the game to version v1.01. Up on booting up the game, you will be prompted to install a small 5MB update, and mainly addresses a issue with the wireless controller. A few glitches and a trophy hack have been discovered in the title since it was launched on March 16th 2010, so presumably the patch also addresses these.
You may remember the God of War III “Maxed Out” trophy glitch we reported on earlier this week. It turns out that this glitch is a precursor to another glitch in the game – the ability to use maxed out weapons in a new game. Normally, you can’t carry over the weapons from your previous save when starting a new game in God of War III, but we have details on how you can below.
God of War III hits the headlines again this week with more sales related news. The title has not only outsold the previous two titles in week one sales, but has now broken the 1 million units mark. Sales for the title up to March 20th 2010 indicate that just over 1.1 million units were sold worldwide. In terms of regional breakdown around 700,000 units were sold in the Americas and 400,000 in Europe and Other Regions (excluding Japan).
The “Maxed Out” trophy in God of War III can only be obtained after completely upgrading all your weapons (or so you would think). A forum user at PS3Trophies.org has discovered an alternative method to acquiring the trophy (see below). The glitch appears in Combat Arena, which will be unlocked once you beat the story and Challenge of Olympus mode.
God of War III has pushed Final Fantasy XIII from the number one spot in the UK all-format charts this week after the title suffered a 80% drop in sales, according to the latest GfK Charts. Final Fantasy XIII has dropped to third place but still holds the record for the fastest selling game in 2010, while Battlefield: Bad Company 2 retains second position. Kratos’ latest adventure outsold God of War II’s launch by a ratio of 2.65 to 1.
