How do I report a PSN user to Sony?

January 1st, 2010 Niraj Shah No comments

If you find a PSN user causing trouble, cheating or offending anyone you can report the user to Sony who can then take appropriate action. Cheating is one of the main reasons we recommend reporting, as these players spoil the fun for everyone. This could involve exploiting glitches in the game to get ahead or use of other non-permitted action.

You can use Sony’s Grief Reporting service to report such users.

July 1st, 2009 Niraj Shah No comments

If you have connected your PS3 to a new TV without changing the settings or selected the wrong resolutions, you will sometimes get a blank screen.

If you can’t access the [Settings] menu to reset the display, turn off your PS3 and then hold down the power button for 10 seconds. You will hear two beeps and then see something on the screen. Holding the power button down for 10 seconds will reset the display to the lowest settings and also restore some other settings to their defaults.

If you are using firmware 2.50, you can access the recovery menu by holding down the power button until you hear three quick beeps. You will be asked to plug in a controller and press the PS button. The menu will allow you to perform various tasks to recover the PS3 console, these include:

  1. Restart system
  2. Restore default settings
  3. Restore file system
  4. Rebuild database
  5. Restore PS3 system

Can I unlock trophies by copying over game save data?

January 1st, 2009 Niraj Shah No comments

No. Your trophies are stored on your PlayStation Network account. Copying someone else’s savedata will not unlock the trophies to your account, you will need to get them the hard way – by playing the game and achieving the requirements to unlock the trophy.

How do I unlock trophies?

January 1st, 2009 Niraj Shah No comments

In order to unlock trophies, you must own a game that supports the trophy feature. All new games support trophies and some older games have been patched to support trophies. Check out our Trophy List & Guides page to see which games support trophies.

In order to unlock a trophy, you must complete a task within the game. You can see what the requirements for unlocking a trophy are by checking the [Trophy Collection] menu under the [Game] menu on the XMB. For example, to earn a gold trophy in Super Stardust HD you must get a 10x Multiplier.

January 1st, 2009 Niraj Shah No comments

If you are using Firmware 2.40 or greater, pressing the PS button will bring up the in-game XMB (if you are in-game) or the old style menu if you are not. If you are in-game, you can bring up the old style menu by holding down the PS Button. The old style menu only allows you to do a limited number of things:

    • turn off controller
    • reassign controllers (in-game only)
    • vibration settings (in-game only)
    • game upscaling and smoothing options (PS/PS2 games only)
